Why cover a parasol at all?

Because the weather never takes a day off. A parasol left uncovered through a British winter collects rain that soaks into folded fabric, then sits there. That is how mould and mildew start. Frost stiffens and cracks fabric fibres. And in summer, UV exposure fades canopy colours long before the frame wears out.

A protective cover deals with all of it in one go. The durable fabric keeps rain, frost and debris off the canopy, and the tailored fit means it slides on and off in under a minute. No wrestling, no gaps flapping in the wind.

Do parasol covers really extend a parasol's lifespan?

Yes. The main causes of parasol deterioration are UV fading, water sitting in folded fabric, and winter frost. A fitted cover blocks all three, so the canopy and mechanism stay in usable condition for considerably longer than an uncovered parasol.

If you cannot store it indoors, always cover it. Winter is the hardest season for parasols in the UK. Damp folded fabric grows mould, and frost damages both fabric and moving parts. A cover plus a sheltered spot against a wall is the next best thing to dry indoor storage.

A side wind cover is shaped for cantilever parasols, where the supporting pole stands to the side of the canopy rather than through its centre. A standard cover will not fit around the offset arm, so cantilever owners need the Large Side Wind or Extra Large Side Wind types of protective covers.

Let the canopy dry first whenever possible. Trapping moisture under a cover for weeks is exactly what causes mildew. If rain is coming and you have no choice, cover it, then uncover on the next dry day to let it dry in the air.

It is purely about aesthetics; both use the same fabric. Beige blends in with wooden furniture and softer garden schemes. Dark grey suits modern outdoor spaces and shows less dirt, which is why most of our commercial customers pick it.
